Last of the summer

Here are a few more pictures from some last summer fun before the school starts in a couple of weeks.  Seth and Angie were here for about a week last week and it was nice visiting with them for a little while.  Sarah and Adam both had birthdays that week so we had a little birthday celebration for them and then we went to see them at the cabin for a couple days.  It wasn’t the funnest time for us because Kade had a bad cough and just not feeling like himself and I was sick with a cold/cough for a whole week and just couldn’t get better.  We went to the Itasca State Park where we went to check out the farmers show and before we met everyone we took our kids to the headwaters, where the Mississippi starts.  Kids had a blast on our little hike there, just running freely and of course Kason was in the lead the whole time.  There wasn’t too much to look at at the farmers show, unless you love tractors so little Adam was in his zone but all the kids loved riding on a little train they had set up there.  Kason did not want to get off the train, after many rides I had to take him off the train kicking and screaming.

Now we’re all finally over the colds and feeling better and I have my energy back so I’m able to run again.  My big project right now is working on Kason’s potty training and he’s getting better at it quick, a lot faster than what I thought it would be when we started.  At first he could care less if he peed in his underwear and would try to hold the pee for half a day and just cry when he couldn’t hold it anymore.  But now he’ll have no peeing accidents anymore, is all excited when he goes and even stays dry during naps and over night.  But it stops there and he will not try to poop sitting on the toilet.  He either waits for a diaper (usually during a nap) or just poops in his underwear.  It’s a bit frustrating to me because how do you make someone poop on the toilet?  You can’t hold the pee all day but you can hold the poop for days if you’re stubborn.  :)   It is funny, but Kade did the same thing when we were potty training him.  He got peeing down right away but always went to hide when he had to poop or else waited until we went to town and he had a pull-up on.  He was almost a year older than Kason is now and for him I know he was scared about the pooping in the toilet but it took only one time of him doing it and he figured it out.  With Kason though, you can’t even tell he’s pooping.  He’ll do it standing up, wherever, no signs he has to go.  So I guess patience is something I need right now, mainly to deal with the messes. :)

Ford Contour: 2005 – 2008………………..?

She was a good car, despite the c-clamps in the dash

She was a good car, despite the c-clamps in the dash

While it was a joyful night last night, it turned to shock and sadness this morning.  Ivan and I had a ‘lost in translation’ moment and the keys were left in the car last night.  No big deal.  It’s Thief River Falls, in the country, nobody locks their door at night.  However this morning, no car.  Much speculation has been made that it may have made a trek east to a land reserved to others.  If so, it is lost for sure, burning among trees mourning the loss of a great friend that helped a family out during difficult times, traveled with us during exciting building times, and just kept us happy when we needed to be happy.  As many know we’ve been blessed to have 3 vehicles in our possession all paid for.  The Ford was great for transporting Ivan and Julia between our place, my parent’s, and the new house.  Each day she started faithfully, bringing it’s passengers to their desired journey.  Now she is gone.  Please join me in a moment of silence as we mourn her loss and pray the Malibu (which was a replacement car for another car stolen from our possession.  Yes, now you can say you know someone who has had two cars stolen from them) will last a long life for us and provide reliable transportation.

our 9th anniversary

We have really been married 10 years this year (for those who don’t know) but the first wedding was just a legal way for us to start the immigration paperwork while I finished college.  Still, it seems like those years went by so fast.  I’m getting older and hopefully wiser. :)

This year will probably be our first anniversary where we don’t do anything just the two of us.  Kade has a soccer game tonight and after that will be too late to do anything.  Plus if we want to have a date it usually isn’t in Thief River because there just isn’t any good place to go to.  Well, at least it helps us not to spend as much money.

Ehren and I posed for some pictures because I told him we never take any pictures of just the two of us, always with kids or of the kids.  And we really have hardly any pictures of Ehren so that’s our anniversary thing to do. :)
