Kason’s first doctor’s appointment

We had our two week check-up today at the clinic, a few days late but they want the babies to be at least 2 weeks old.  He weighed 10lbs11oz and was 23 and 1/2 inches long which is great.  He is in the 95-97th percentile for weight and length, which none of our kids were.  His head is more like 75th percentile so I’m hoping he’ll have our Markus’s smaller head.  :)   Ehren thinks he looks just like a Markus (my family) and he really does look more like my family, but who knows if it will stay or if he’ll still change.  At first we thought he looked a lot like Kade but he has changed a lot since he was born.  Anyway, everything looked fine and there are no concerns about him at all.  His skin looks really nice too, the nurse was saying how perfect it looks.  Anika also got over her fever last night so she’s been herself again today and not clinging so much to me.

Kade’s preschool graduation

I had a crazy morning today.  Kade had his preschool graduation but I missed the whole thing taking Anika to the clinic.  He wasn’t too disapointed but I was a little bummed because I wanted to take pictures of him during the little ceremony they had.  So at least I took a couple pictures of him by his locker and he thought he should go inside it.  Kade is really excited about going to kindergarten next year although I think he will not like the bus because the few times that he did ride the bus home from school he got teased by older kids and some girls tried to kiss him.  So he is pretty scared about it, we’ll have to see how it goes.

Anika has had a fever for 3 days now and today I finally took her in to see what was up.  They couldn’t find anything wrong so they thought it could be a bladder infection.  But after they tested her blood and urine it looked fine so it must be some kind of a virus.  She barely ate anything since yesterday morning and is very clingy and fussy so it’s been a little harder around the house.  At least she’s been sleeping a lot which is nice, but she wakes up just hot.  Someone at school told me that their child had the same thing and the fever lasted for a week so it must be going around.

Kason has been a trooper through the whole thing and slept the entire time.  It’s so nice when they can still do that, it will be over before we know it.

2 weeks old

Kason is 2 weeks old today and he seems more like 2 months old.  He fits normal into 3 month old clothes – like the sleeper he’s wearing on the pictures.  I am very happy he’s been a good sleeper so far, sleeping between 4-5 hours at a time at night.  He loves to snuggle next to me in bed and falls asleep almost right away that way which is really nice.  Ehren is not so happy about him in our bed, but I’m enjoying it because Kade and Anika didn’t like it that much and it feels like we’re bonding more.  Kason also likes his pacifier when he’s up and it keeps him happy for a long time and that is different too because neither Kade nor Anika would take the pacifier.  His fussiest time so far is in the evening and it’s almost like he’s trying to eat up for the night because he wants to eat almost every hour and a half and then once he’s out for the night he just gets up once at around 3am and then again around 7.  I have been getting a lot of milk and already stored about 4 bags because Kason wouldn’t eat anymore and I still had a lot.  So I am feeling pretty good, still a little weak in my stomach and back but good and not too tired.  I have about 10-12 pounds (5-7kg) to lose which I think it’s great since I haven’t been able to do anything about it yet.  Well, other than it is hard to even find time to eat.  I’m always the last one to eat and usually it’s whatever I can eat the fastest so maybe that has something to do with it.  But I really haven’t been as hungry as what I remember from before, mainly I just drink orange juice because I’m thirsty all the time.  Kade and Anika are slowly adjusting to the baby in the house and they can be a handful together because Kade is bossing Ani around and she is running around the house, taking apart everything and doing things she knows she is not supposed to do.  They really don’t get jealous of me being with the baby or holding the baby, but they can get jealous of each other and if one is looking at Kason the other one is right there trying to take over.

Kason – 1 week old

Kason is one week old and is doing great.  His embilical cord fell off so we had his first bath in the tub.  He really liked it other than it really woke him up and realized he was still hungry so he was chewing on his fingers.  He is still sleeping a lot during the day and does pretty good at night, sleeping about 4 hours at a time and most of the times he goes right back to sleep after he eats.  So far he has not been very fussy at all, when he’s up he’s just looking around at all of us.  Kade and Ani love talking to him when he’s up and seeing if Kason will look at them.

Bath time

We had a first really nice day yesterday.  Kade and Anika spent the day at my friend’s house and they played outside all day.  I didn’t think you could get sunburned but I guess it was strong enough so Kade came home red like this.  Anika must have been in a shade more because her skin is a lot lighter than Kade’s.  It’s time to pull out the sunscreen.  I enjoyed some time alone with the baby which was really nice.  Kade and Ani both got a bath last night (pictures below) and as usual they really enjoyed it, especially Anika who likes to lie down on her stomach and put her face down into the water.  I think she will really like swimming.
